Development of tools for modulation of genes involved in protein glycosylation by genome editing.

Glycosylation is one of the most important post-translational modifications of proteins contributing to a number of functions in protein biology, from protein folding and quality control to recognition events such as cell signalling and immune surveillance. Glycans have come into focus recently as contributors or cause of different human complex diseases. A recent GWAS study of the IgG glycosylation identified several genes with the IL6ST locus being among the top hits. IgG represents an excellent model glycoprotein because it has one glycosylation site at each heavy chain.
