Gornji Slatinik - Palež
During August and September 2009 archaeological excavations were conducted at the site Gornji Slatinik – Palež, located on the main gas pipeline from Slobodnica to Donji Miholjac. The actual Palež archaeological zone is a dominant position on a ridge from which there is a view of the surrounding area. Twenty six cuts were investigated, 11 of them being postholes, while the rest were waste pits. Particular interest attaches to waste pit SU 3/4, which contains the remains of a drainage channel. According to nds of ceramic and lithic material collected, it can be concluded that these were prehistoric waste pits originating in the Middle Bronze Age. Of particular interest are fragments of ceramics decorated with the pseudo-cord technique. This kind of decoration usually occurs in company with Pannonian incrusted ceramic and material of Vatin culture of the Middle Bronze Age (Br B-Br C). The prehistoric pits mentioned are probably related to the remains of a settlement that might have been somewhere in the immediate vicinity, but not covered by the course of the gas pipeline.
