performance of concrete reinforced with corrosion resistant steels exposed to real marine environment
Exposure test site situated at the north Adriatic coast beside the Krk Bridge was established in 2009, as a part of the European project ARCHES. Krk Bridge has been exposed to the actions of marine environment for more than 30 years, and was suffering under severe corrosion problems, resulting in a major repair campaign during last 10 years. Location of the test site is under the Krk Bridge, at the launch ramp where concreting of bridge elements was performed during construction works. The purpose of the test site was to expose concrete columns reinforced with different type of corrosion resistant steel to real marine, aggressive environment and monitor their behaviour in time. A total of 18 concrete columns were exposed, reinforced with 6 types of reinforcing steel. Paper presents experience from the test site and discusses results obtained during corrosion monitoring of exposed columns.
