Multiple Layers Of Protection Regulate Pathogenesis Of CMV In The Ovary
It is well established that human cytomegalovirus can pass the placenta and cause devastating congenital disease. Moreover, primary infection with CMV during the first few weeks of pregnancy can lead to miscarriage and the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. During early pregnancy, ovaries play crucial role as sources of hormone progesterone that is needed for implantation and pregnancy maintenance and yet there is no data regarding the pathogenesis of CMV in the ovary.
