Comparison of the Emery Model Band Structure and the ARPES data for the high-Tc superconductors
The average band structure of the extended Emery model for the CuO2 planes is calculated, in which, due to the strong hole correlations on the Cu site, the copper-related parameters are assumed to renormalise with doping. This band structure is then used to fit Fermi surfaces (FS) and energy bands of LSCO, Bi2212 and Y123, measured in ARPES experiments. The evolution of the FS with the doping, observed in LSCO, is associated with strong renormalisation of Cu-O site energy difference and Cu-O overlap integral with respect to the direct O-O overlap. Thus obtained two-parameter band-fits agree excelentlly with the ARPES data. The physically important result that Cu-O site energy difference is the smallest parameter in the underdoped regime, observed also in Bi2212 and Y123, points out the importance of the fluctuations involving three sites, instead of one site, implicitly assumed in widely used Hubbard model.
