Research of air quality at woodworking places in furniture factory
International Agency for Research of Cancer (IARC, 1995) declared that there was sufficient evidence to show that furniture and cabinet makers were in Group I with regard to increased risk of nose and nasal cavity cancer and high exposure to wood dust or formaldehyde emission. The results of our research conducted in a furniture factory showed that the highest concentration of respirable wood particles could be found at bend sander workplace compared to other woodworking machines ? ; circular saws, band saw, milling machine and planer. The highest value of formaldehyde mass concentration was measured in the furniture shop and the lowest value of formaldehyde mass concentration was measured at wood machining places. Exceeding of recommended limit values of hardwood mass concentration (1 mg/m3 for respirable wood dust and 3 mg/m3 for total dust) was noticed at band sander and at most types of circular saws. Mass concentration of formaldehyde was about 8 times lower than the allowed standard value of 0.6 mg/m3.
