Health-related quality of life five years after coronary artery bypass graft surgery

Coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) is performed to reduce cardiac mortality and relieve patients' symptoms of coronary artery disease and to prolong their lives. In our study we tried to assess HRQL five years after CABG surgery and to identify predictors of impaired and unimpaired HRQL. Eligible patients were adults who underwent CABG surgery in Dubrava University Hospital, Zagreb during year 2007. Patients completed HRQL questionaire during regular check-up five years after CABG surgery. The population study included 140 patients, median age 63 (43-83) years. In the present study we have found that HRQL five years after CABG was good, with total SF-36 score 57.32 (8.06-86.88). After exclusion of the patients with history of stroke, 74% of the remaining patients reported good or excellent health. Age, body mass index, history of stroke and myocardial infarction have great impact on HRQL after CABG.
