Methods for added resistance estimation in head and oblique waves
The study is focused on numerical and experimental estimation of added resistance of ship in regular waves. Although added resistance is not the most important component of total ship resistance, the estimation of the resistance increase due to waves represents the problem of high practical interest because of its implication on ship speed and fuel consumption estimation. This paper deals with two methods for added resistance estimation in long waves and one method for short wave regions applicable for head and oblique waves, as well as their comparison for different ship types and different conditions. An overview of the methods is given. Comparison of the added resistance estimation is done with experimental results where they were available.
