INVOLUNTARY SPEEED LOSS OF A TANKER IN SEA WAVES
The paper represents an analysis of involuntary speed loss of the tanker ship because of the impact of the sea waves. Ship response in regular waves is estimated. The analysis of speed loss was made for a set of various conditions (significant wave height: 0-7 m) and heading angles (0o, 30o, 60o, 90o, 120o, 150o, 180o) and three selected initial speed (10 čv., 12.5 čv. and 15 čv.). The values of ship resistance in calm water were estimated by the method Holtrop and Mannen, while values of added resistance in waves by Faltinsen integration pressure method. Characteristics of propeller free run are obtained by the Oosterveld and Oossanen method. The results of ship resistance in still water calculations, and free run propeller characteristics are compared with experimental data. The rate of speed loss is determined on the basis of fixed power for three loading cases.
