Combat-Related Posttraumatic stress disorder and social functioning

The impairment of the social functioning is widespread in combat-related PTSD. It is associated with high levels of psychological distress and with pervasive disruptions in life functioning. the results obtained by the World Health Organisation Psychiattric Disability Assesment Schedule (WHO-DAS) in a sample of 33 cases with combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder are reported. The application of social rehabilitation interventions for these patients requires a comprehensive assesment of social functioning. Oportunities of interventions in the improvement of the observed social disability are also discussed.
