Syntheses and crystal structures of the essential metal complexes with 2, 2'-iminodiacetamide
Metal complexes with amino acids and their derivatives have been studied for their various biological activities, but as model systems for proteins as well [1]. Based on literature sources, only few metal complexes with glycine amide and iminodiacetamide have been structurally characterized [2]. In our research we have synthesized and structurally characterized cobalt and nickel complexes with 2, 2’-iminodiacetamide and halogen ions: [M(imda)2]I I3 (M = Co, Ni ; imda = 2, 2’-iminodiacetamide) (structures 1 and 2), [Co(imda)2]Br Br3 (3) and [CoCl2(H2O)(imda)] (4) (Figure 1.). All compounds were synthesized using solution based methods. Compounds 1, 2 and 3 are all isostructural with two imda molecules coordinated to metal ion as a tridentate ligand (through one imino nitrogen and two amide oxygen atoms). Iodide and bromide are weakly hydrogen bonded through six N–H···X interactions while trihalogen ions are involved only in weak non-covalent interactions. In compound 4, central metal ion is octahedrally coordinated by two chloride, one water molecule and one tridentate imda ligand.
