Analysis of Evolving Software-Systems as Complex Networks
Many real-world systems can be represented as network. The same approach can be adopted for the software systems, which are constantly evolving and becoming more complex. In our work, we have analyzed evolving open-source software system, adopting new approach in software engineering that uses a network theory. Statistical analysis of software networks has revealed some properties such as, power-law degree distribution, scale-free, small-world. Studying the structure of the system and its evolution in time by network theory the results can be applied for predicting future trend, reliability, maintainability, defect prediction and other software characteristics. And our work is based on detecting these properties on an open-source software system in evolution.
