Cartographic versus Statistical Records of the Early Modern Dalmatian Environmental and Demographic Change on the Multiple Borderlands
By using primarily cartographic and statistical sources of various provenances the authors offered a brief interdisciplinary insight into economy driven human-induced early modern environmental change (marshland reclamation) on the Eastern Adriatic (Vrana Estate), revealing its reasons, technical phases and consequences on rural everyday life in comparative perspective. Challenging the possibilities of geographical information systems analyses in quantitative transmedia data comparison the paper revealed the limits of modern tools operating the selected (smaller scale) old maps. In order to prove the existing results of qualitative research, known from other kinds of narratives, also by quantitative apparatus, further research possibilities have been discussed and additional relevant sources (both cartographic and demographic) proposed.
