Preschool Teacher's Competences for Professional Ethics in Parents Consultation and Treatment: A Qualitative Study

In the new paradigm of early and preschool education professional demands of modern preschool teachers are increased and include as general ethical behavior of preschool teachers, and specifically in counselling parents. The aim was to identify and explore the educator's perception of the necessary competencies for the ethical treatment while counselling parents. This qualitative study used a semi-structured interview, which involved 11 preschool teachers. Interviews are transcriptional and coded according to theamatic analysis. Most preschool teachers reflect the importance of ethical conduct in counselling parents while the necessary competencies for this specific area are seen in the development of knowledge about professional ethics and counseling, acquiring skills for ethical behavior and proactivity. A key role for the development of these competencies is visible in the continuous professional development, institutional support and the initial education. Evidently, preschool teachers approach conscientiously and professionally in challenging situations they are facing in their daily work with children and parents, questioning the personal level of knowledge and skills for ethical behavior while working with parents.
