Susceptibility of narrow-leaved ash clones to the ash dieback pathogen in Croatia
Total of nine Fraxinus angustifolia clones were tested for their susceptibility to the pathogenic fungus Hymenoscyphus fraxineus. Artifical inoculations were made into the stems of young plants using agar plugs with mycelium. After one year of monitoring, 49% of plants were completely dead, 5% dead above the inoculation point and the rest 46% had serious disease symptoms. There was clearly a difference in susceptibility among different clones. Future research should include more genotypes in order to determine which traits define the ability of plants to suppress pathogen, because these traits will be the most desirable ones for any Fraxinus species in the future.
