Simulation and Analysis of a Lightning Strikes to GSM Base Transmission Station Tower
In this paper, a lighting strikes to a GSM Base Transmission Station (BTS) has been simulated in order to get the time domain response of the system. This is needed for checking and finding appropriate surge limiter for the protection of the BTS electronic equipment. A Field theory approach is used. First, a frequency domain analysis is performed using the HIFREQ (High Frequency) and FFTSES (Fourier Transformation) modules of the CDEGS (Current Distribution Electromagnetic Interference Grounding and Soil Structure Analysis) software package. Then, the time domain response of the system is analysed using an inverse FFT. Some typical lighting strike currents are simulated at the top of the tower, looking for the time domain response at the point of connection of the surge limiter and associated grounding system.
