Maintenance of a hydraulic system through oil monitoring and contamination control
Control of contamination and oil monitoring is especially important in hydraulic power and control systems. In terms of maintenance, the biggest advantage of contamination control is its contribution to flexible and precise motion and forces control enabling more time-efficient response and energy use. Contamination control is widely used in automotive, aerospace, industrial machinery and other areas of hydraulic control equipment. Presence of contaminant in oil can and will affect hydraulic system reliability and accuracy of its hydraulic parts. Experience shows that most of operational malfunctions in hydraulic systems are caused by contaminated oil, but also by inadequate oil monitoring procedures. This paper presents types of failures due to contamination, contamination control practice and procedures. From the research it can be concluded that contamination control has a direct economic impact in terms of savings due to higher reliability and energy savings.
