An experimental-analytical method for determination of friction factor in deep drawing

The main aim of this paper is to experimentally determine friction coefficient (μ) and maximal drawing force (MDF) for different lubrication conditions and blank holder forces (BHF) in the deep drawing process. In that purpose strip drawing method was used. Presented method is very similar to deep drawing test, but much quicker, cheaper and it is mainly used for the lubrication testing. Strips were made of aluminum alloy EN AW 1050. Three different lubrication conditions are achieved with mineral oil, graphite grease and without any lubrication. Furthermore, blank holder force (BHF) was varied in a range from 100 to 800 N. Experiments were planned utilizing response surface methodology (RSM) and D-optimal design. Finally, mathematical models are derived to evaluate friction coefficient and MDF for deep drawing process.
