Influence of Microbiological Preparation on Sugar Beet Infection by Rhizoctonia solani Kühn

In the sugar beet production, dependent on climatic conditions, level of infestation with soil pathogens and on agrotechnology, the problem of sugar beet root rot appeared. Of pathogens which cause sugar beet root rot, most damage is caused by the fungi Rhizoctonia solani Kühn. Taking into consideration the chemical and microbiological properties of the soil, the experiment was conducted on two soil types: Eutric brown soil and Humogley. The experiment was set up in 2013 in a completely randomized block design with four replications and 12 different variants, which included two tolerant and two sensitive hybrids to this pathogenic fungus. Three different application of microbiological preparation were selected: control (1), the soil was treated pre-sowing (2), and pre-sowing and foliar treatment (3) with the biofertilizer EM Aktiv, which contains beneficial bacteria (Pseudomonas fluorescens Migula, Bacillus megaterium de Bary, Bacillus subtilis (Ehrenberg) Cohn, lactic acid bacteria) that show extremely antagonistic action against pathogenic fungi R. solani Kühn. In the second variant, the microbiological preparation EM Aktiv was applied pre-sowing (applied to the soil and incorporated by seed harrow) at the dose of 40 l/ha, and in the third variant it was applied pre-sowing at the dose of 30 l/ha with a foliar application of 10 l/ha (in the phase of closing of rows). The percentage of the plants infected with pathogenic fungi R. solani Kühn and percentage of decayed plants were determined in 2–4 true leaves phase. After harvest in the middle of October, root yield, sugar content and sugar yield were determined.
