Effects of pulse TIG welding parameters upon the corrosion resistance of high alloyed steels
Results of investigation of effects of the certain parameters of TIG pulse welding upon the dimensions of joint and its resistance towards the pitting corrosion have been reported. Experimental work has been conducted applying orbital welding without using filler material. The base material was tube made of duplex grade steel (designation 1.4462) with 2,5 mm wall thickness. Mean welding current, pulse frequency and welding speed was kept at the constant level for all trial welds. Parameters that were changed included intensity of pulse current (high pulse - Ip) and intensity of base current (low pulse - Io). Relationship between Ip/Io has been varied in the range 1,35 to 9. Achieved results indicate that Ip and Io have effects upon the size and shape of weld and corrosion resistance if the joint have been surface treated after welding. Lower Ip/Io ratio enhances resistance to the pitting corrosion. If welded joints have not been surface treated, Ip and Io have not effect upon the resistance toward the pitting corrosion. The collected data are presented in the tables and as graphic plots.
