Productivity Optimization of an Airline
The optimization of productivity makes the initial preconditions for successful business operation of an airline. There is no unique indicator of the air company productivity, but there are three basic groups of productivity i.e. of aircraft, employee and fuel consumption productivity. One should take into consideration methodological, specially weight disproportion in productivity calculations. The importance of the average flight distance is very significant. Implementation of total factor productivity in recent times is evaluating also elements of security, quality and punctuality of air transport. The future dynamics of productivity growth of air transport shall be considerably modest and low with the average annual growing rates of only 0, 2-0, 4 percent. Aircraft productivity of Croatia Airlines is approximately 10-15 percent lower, that of the employees about 30 percent lower and the productivity of fuel is about 10 percent lower than the average values of the European airlines, members of AEA. The correlation analysis for the period 1991-2002 of Croatia Airlines operations identifies a strong correlations of natural indicators i.e. weight load factor and tonne kilometers per employee in respect to revenue level, slightly weaker correlation regarding the operating result and absence of the correlation regarding the profitability of the company.
