GENETIC CHARACTERIZATION OF NATURAL GASES IN THE SOUTHERN, MARGINAL PART OF THE PANNONIAN BASIN, CROATIA
The southern, marginal part of the Pannonian Basin is located in the Republic of Croatia. This area is a hydrocarbon producing area consisting of gas, gas-condensate and small oil-gas fields. Reaserch on chemical components and isotopic composition of carbon and hydrogen of the natural gas shows that gases are predominantly thermogenic. With respect to source organic facies, there are two main types of gases: condensate-associated gases, with - 41.8 to - 31.1 ‰ of 13C and with -132 to -169 ‰ D originate manly from Lower-Middle Miocene clastic source rocks and petroleum-associated gases generated from Badenian to Pannonian source rocks with sapropelic organic matter, with – 47.5 to - 39.8 ‰ of 13C and heavier than -170‰ of D. Mineralogical composition of reservoir rocks and specific thermodynamic conditions have a crucial impact on the formation of CO2 and H2S that are associated with most hydrocarbon accumulations
