Clinical implications of serotonin syndrome
Serotonin syndrome usually develops following administration of monoamine oxidase inhibitors and drugs that enhance serotonergic transmission. Serotonin agents, such as Prozac, are commonly prescribed drugs today, therefore the serotonin syndrome occurs more frequently than ever before. Clinicians should be able to prevent, recognize and treat the syndrome in their practice. This review summarizes the literature including case reports on serotonin syndrome patients.
