Electrochemical study of uranium(VI) in a queous solution of Tri-n-Butyl phosphate

The adsorption of TBP at the mercury electrode was investigated by drop time and tensammetric measurements. The adsorption occurs in the potential range from approximately 0 V up to -1.3 V vs. SCE. The interaction of uranyl ion and TBP in aqueous solutions and in the adsorbed layer on Hg electrode surface was examined by polarography. In the presence of TBP the reduction wave of uranium(VI) splits into a reversible wave at -0.17 V and an irreversible one at -0.3 V. A bridge mechanism of electron transfer at the surface covered with TBP is suggested.
