Pop Politics as Violence Against Politics? An Overview of the Debate
This paper presents the debate about the rise of “pop politics” and its assumed effects on democracy. It presents the arguments of the two most resonant and rather passionate groups. The first one regards pop politics as a violence against politics itself and sees it as ultimately detrimental to democracy while the second one argues that there are reasons to see pop politics not only as beneficial to democracy but to regard it as a “new democratic resource”.
