MANAGEMENT TRAINING AND PRODUCTIVITY IN CROATIAN MSES AND SMES
Empirical work done on advanced economies mostly corroborates the hypothesis that MSEs suffer from a lack of managerial quality for a variety of reasons, and that countries would greatly benefit from introducing some form of managerial training available to micro and small-sized firms. This paper assumes that the lack of quality management in smaller firms should be visible in profitability or productivity levels. The results of our analysis however are mixed. While micro firms record the lowest average profitability level of all four categories analysed, small firms on the other hand record the highest. Furthermore productivity level trends (measured by TFP) in all four categories show the opposite dynamic to what is expected.
