Role of zeolites in dye wastewater treatment
This work adresses the development and analysis a type of advanced oxidation processes (AOP) for the degradation of azo and reactive organic dyes. Zeolites have been used quite extensively for removal of inorganic pollutants from wastewater. Zeolites have also been used as catalysts for a number of liquid phase organic chemical synthetic reactions, however the combination of zeolites with organic dyes has only received limited study. Different types of zeolites have been used in degradation of C.I. Dirct Orange 39, C.I. Mordant Yellow 10, C.I. Mordant Dye, C.I. Reactive Blue 137, C.I. Reactive Red 45, C.I.Reactive Red 120 and C.I. Basic Violet 120 by Fenton's reaction. This set of dyes provides a good sample of general types of dyes used in industry and most dyes within each group have similar oxidation and reduction pathways. Substitution of ferrous sulphate in Fenton's reaction with FeZSM5 zeolte has been investigate in order to avoid unnecessarily consumption of chemicals.
