Uloga ljekarnika u skrbi oboljelih od hipertenzije – preporuke za mjerenje arterijskog tlaka
Hypertension remains a major health problem in most countries because of its impact on the population attributable mortality and morbidity due to insuffi cient hypertension prevention and control at community level. Concerning hypertension control, blood pressure is under control in less than 20 % of patients with hypertension in many countries. Pharmacists can have a signifi cant role in monitoring blood pressure and managing the medication of patients with hypertension. As one of the most easily accessible health care professionals, pharmacists have the necessary tools and knowledge to implement timely screening and eff ective prevention initiatives. Th ere is evidence that early treatment may reduce the likelihood of developing more severe hypertension at a later time, hence reducing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Pharmacists can contribute to early detection of hypertension by measuring blood pressure of a patient and referring potential patients with possible hypertension to the general practitioner, as well as by informing and educating patients on self-measurement procedures in order to ensure reliable measurements.
