Cutting Forces and Adhesive Flank Wear Model
The single most significant type of turning tool wear that has drawn constant attention is flank wear. In order to predict the progress of flank wear land in this study, adhesive wear has been considered as the predominant one at low machining temperatures. An adhesive flank wear-time model was derived for possible use for in-process tool-condition monitoring through measurements of the variations in cutting force components in xy-plane. Predictions from the model correlate well with the actual flank wear measurements.
