Sustainability Issues in Management of Tourism in Protected Areas: Case Study of Plitvice Lakes National Park
At the time when modern trends of world tourism indicate growing interest in protected areas, one of the most important questions arising is whether tourism in the protected areas is possibility or a challenge. Because of attractiveness and the opportunities offered by the protected areas, conflicts appear between the competing interests of tourism, conservation and local communities. Management should be the intermediator between these interests but can also, if inadequate, be a problem issue. The issue of sustainability and management of protected area explored the case of Plitvice Lakes National Park where there is extremely sensitive environment, intense tourism development and a need for economic generation of a depressed rural region.
