Career Interest for Sustainability: New and Emerging Interest Domain
In the proposed paper we will present newly developed measure Career Interest for Sustainability (CIS), which measures interests towards professional engagement in each of three domains of sustainability: environmental, social and economic. The CIS scale consists of 12 items in which respondents estimate their interest for contribution to environmental, social and economic sustainability through their future occupation. The CIS scale showed expected three-dimensional factor structure and good reliability, as well as logical relations to work and environmental values, vocational interests, career adaptability, time perspectives and attitudes towards ecological issues (New Ecological Paradigm). Property Vector Fitting was used to settle the CIS scales in the People-Things and Data-Ideas interest space. Two of three CIS scales fitted well into interest space (interest toward fostering social fairness fitted close to the People pole, and interest toward raising economic sustainability fitted next to the Data pole), while interest toward nurturing environmental sustainability turned to be more distinct from classic interest scales. Obtained results stress the importance of considering vocational interests for raising sustainability in career and life design.
