Free Time: Possibilities for the Development of Individuals and Societies
The free time phenomenon has been explained from different aspects and positions, while the differences in treating free time arise from age, sex and profession of the person as well as his or her interest and motivation. The aim of this research has been to analyse the ways children of a younger school age spend their free time and determine the differences between girls and boys in spending free time. The results obtained in this research have shown that more than 30 per cent of girls and boys do not engage in sports in their free time at all. Boys spend averagely more time watching television, playing on the computer and reading than girls. Nevertheless, boys' parents have evaluated their sports form better than girls' parents. All examinees' parents have evaluated health and their child's body weight as very good. Girls prefer individual sports and dance, while boys prefer sports games and martial arts.
