Skin color and internal quality of the fruit is one of the most important indicators of quality in contemporary intensive apple production. Due to the warmer autumn weather conditions, fruit coloring inconsistency appears more and more often. Considering this, research is set to determine the impact of reflective films on the development and color intensity, and impact on the internal quality of fruit cultivars of the ‘Braeburn’ group. The experiment was conducted in 2013 (eastern Croatia) on the varieties ‘Braeburn’: ‘Helena’, ‘Braeburn Hillwell’ and ‘Braeburn Royal’. The trees were 6 years old, grafted on M9-T337 rootstock with planting density 3.5 × 0.8 m (3, 570 plant per ha). Reflective foil (aluminum material UV stabilized film) is set 25 days before the expected harvest. Pomological measurements and chemical measurements were conducted at harvest and after 4 months of storage. There is a positive effect of the reflective film on most of the observed parameters. The diameter of the fruit (‘Braeburn Hillwell’) and fruit weight (‘Helena’) were significantly influenced by treatment with foil. The total antioxidant capacity (‘Helena’) and total anthocyanins (all three varieties) were significantly higher than in the control treatment. Significant differences were found in the supplementary color of the fruit in all the monitored varieties. The fruits under the reflective foil at the harvest had significantly lower L* (brightness) and b* (yellow)value relative to the control, and significantly higher a* value (red). It can be concluded that the fruits under a reflective film was darker, more red and less yellow.
