OVERVIEW OF LYMPHOMA SUBTYPES ACCORDING TO KROHEM'S CLASSIFICATION: EXPERIENCE OF CHC RIJEKA

Introduction: Lymphoma is a group of blood cell tumors developed from lymphatic cells. Two main categories of lymphomas are Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and, more frequent, non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Aim: The aim of our study was to contribute to the collection of CHC Rijeka lymphomas for HL and NHL Croatian Cooperative Group for Hematologic Diseases (KROHEM) register. Also to present epidemiologic features of those two lymphoma categories and their subtypes. Materials and methods: Searching the database of our Pathology department, 578 lymphomas were found. HLs and NHLs were analysed separately. Each category was afterwards divided into their subtypes according to KROHEM classification. Results: In the period from 2003 to 2016, 578 lymphomas (122 HLs/21.1% and 456 NHLs/78.9%) were found in our CHC database. Female gender was more common in HL category (67 patients/54.9%). Median age of HL patients was 36 years, range from 13 to 82. The most frequent (70 patients/57.4%) HL subtype was Nodular sclerosis (NSHL). When it comes to NHL patients, both genders were equally immanent. The median age was 67, range from 5 to 88. The most common (160 patients/35%) NHL subtype was Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Conclusion: This retrospective study has contributed to KROHEM's lymphoma register by presenting a single tertiary center experience from 2003 to 2016. The most common HL subtype was NSHL, while DLBCL was the most common of all NHLs. Our epidemiologic features correspond to other researches about lymphomas, where NSHL is accounting 60% to 80% of all HL cases and DLBCL up to 30% of all NHLs.
