Use of Thermography to Analyse the Influence of Yarn Properties on Fabric Drying
The aim of the research is to use thermography to observe influences of different yarn parameters to the total drying time of knitted fabrics. All knitted samples are produced of single spun yarns (differing in count and fibre composition) and differences within samples are obtained by using additional elastane yarn in the structure. The fabrics are wetted with tap water in order to simulate intensive sweating. After the wetting is completed, samples are left on flat surface in dry and hot environment conditions. Thermal images of fabrics are obtained in adjusted time intervals until there was no change between the temperatures of wetted and non-wetted area. Simultanously, the subjective analysis of fabric wettness is performed and later compared to thermographic results. The results indicated significant differences in drying rate between designed fabrics. In real-life situations, those differences would directly affect the individual's perception of comfort. So, it is to expect that the data related to drying time may be useful to consumers when bringing the final decision related to the purchase of textile product.
