Imenska osnova bog u hrvatskoj antroponimiji
In the modern corpus of Croatian anthroponyms there are approximately 30 personal names motivated with the root (radix) bog (‘god’). The authors will present the continuity of the use of that particular name radix among Croats. The article will present historical anthroponimical attestations pertaining to that group (nest) of personal names, from the oldest (11th century) to the modern situation. The oldest available sources attest to the onset of interference and blending of Slavic and Romanic ethnicity, foremost in coastal Dalmatian city communes. Based on abundant historical sources (published, as well as unpublished documents, which were not that much accessible to former researchers) authors will determine the corpus of names in specific historical periods and reasons for the reduced usage of these names during the 16th century. Reasons that led to this situation are not only connected to the decisions of the Council of Trent, but can also be attributed to dramatic historical circumstances (Ottoman incursion and subsequent migrations). Finally, the research will determine in which parts of Croatia such names were present and in which they were not, according to historical and cultural grounds.
