Low Spectral Density Analysis by Video Extraction

The flicker and dimensions of a flame are important parameters of a combustion process of burning solids fuels. This paper presents an instrumentation system developed for an on-line flicker and dimensions measurements of fire plumes. The system consists of a CCD camera, a frame grabber and associated image processing software (Fourier and Wavelets transforms). The flicker signal was obtained by processing the radiation intensity of individual pixels within the luminous region of a flame image. A power spectral density analysis was performed in order to obtain the frequency components of the flicker signal. The system developed has been utilized to investigate the relationship between the flicker and dimensions of a diffusion flame.
