Synthesis of α-tocopherol microcapsules and it's grafting onto cotton fabric
In this research ethyl cellulose (EC) microcapsules containing α-tocopherol were synthesized by phase separation method using aqueous and organic phase. The surface and morphology of newly synthesized microcapsules were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) resulting with the microcapsules of regular spherical shape in the 10–50 μm size range. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) was used to study the components of microcapsules. Microcapsules were then grafted onto cotton fabric using the acrylic binder Tubicoat WLI by using conventional pad-dry process. Treated cotton fabric was analysed by gravimetric method, the drop test and the SEM. Results revealed better frequency and distribution of EC microcapsules, and enhancement of thermal stability of grafted microcapsules with additional drying step. Results indicate that grafting of EC microcapsules containing α- tocopherol onto cotton fabric using acrylic binder is appropriate method to prepare cotton fabric for cosmetic application.
