Simulation Model of a Wave Energy Converter with a Hydraulic System
The most important renewable sources of energy are solar, wind and water energy. About two-thirds of the Earth’s surface are covered with water, i.e. sea water, therefore the sea water waves energy is being increasingly researched. The average energy density of sea waves is 10 kWm-2, which is five times more than the wind energy density and that is why the wave energy converter systems are installed on places where the waves are continuous, such as open sea coasts. Wave energy converters are devices which convert wave energy via a power take-off system and electric generator into electric power. In this paper a calculation of the hydraulic system for the wave energy converter was carried out, and simulation model of passive hydraulic system for the same wave energy converter was developed using the ITISim software.
