Ivica Čuljak: Stigmatizirani umjetnik i margina kao mjesto kreacije
This paper is about the artistic work of a Croatian punk artist Ivica Čuljak, better known as Kečer II and Satan Panonski, who is considered to be the pioneer of auto-destructive body art in the history of Croatian performance art. Taking into account the two main characteristics of his artistic work: the possibility of recognizing various genre determinants and the controversial status of his creation, this work questions the artistic and personal reasons for creation by taking into account two different theoretical approaches. The first part of this analysis concerns a short description of different genres in Čuljak’s artistic work (performative poetry, musical performance, auto-destructive body art, anti-fashion performance, visual and mail art, the art of behaviour). In the second part, considering newer theatrical approaches such as Applied theatre, Ivica Čuljak’s artistic personality and work are reconsidered via the idea of a stigmatized artist who speaks up from five marginalized positions: artist with mental illness, condemned person, queer status, member of a punk subculture and artist in war.
