Genotypic effects on nutritional status of maize II: micronutrients (Zn, Mn, Fe and B)

Nine mother parents of maize hybrid (B1=♀2-48 ; B2=♀1767/99 ; B3=♀ 87-24 ; B4=♀135-88, B5=♀84- 28 ; B6=♀84-44 ; B7=♀438-95 ; B8=♀30-8 ; B9=♀B- 73) were grown under field conditions on Podgorac acid soil in Osijek-Baranya County (the 2006 and 2007 growing seasons). Total 36 rows of each genotype were sown by pneumatic sowing machine. Distribution of the genotypes was by order from B1 to B9 from the central line of trial toward left and right margins. Maize rows in the early growth stage were divided in four sub-plots (replicates: basic plot 14.0 m2 or two 10-m rows). The ear-leaves at flowering and grain at maturity were taken from each basic plot for chemical analysis (ICP-OES procedure). Average concentrations (2- year means: mg kg-1 in dry matter of leaves and grain) were as follows: 42.9 and 24.7 (Zn), 152 and 24.6 (Fe), 74.2 and 5.47 (Mn), 16.0 and 1.10 (B), respectively. Differences among genotypes were from 30.2 to 70.7 and from 21.3 to 29.1 (Zn), from 131 to 194 and from 16.8 to 33.8 (Fe), from 48.5 to 109.1 and from 3.32 to 7.77 (Mn), from 7.1 to 30.2 and from 0.76 gto 1.25 (B), for leaves and grain, respectively. Specifities composition of individual genotypes were as follows: B1(the highest leaf-Zn, leaf- Mn, grain-Fe and grain-B), B2 (the lowest leaf- B and the higher grain-Mn), B3 (the highest leaf-Fe), B4 (the highest leaf-B and grain-Zn), B5 (the lowest leaf-Zn), B7 (the lowest grain- Zn), B8 (the lowest leaf-Fe and grain-Fe), B9 (the lowest leaf-Mn, grain-Mn and grain-B).
