Wear performance of slip cast monolithic and composite ceramics
Monolithic Al2O3 and composite Al2O3–ZrO2 ceramics (composition: 90% Al2O3 and 10% ZrO2) were prepared by slip casting technique. Sintered samples were subjected to the solid particle erosion by SiO2 under different impact angles (30°, 60°, 90°). Erosive wear resistance was determined by observing the weight loss. The highest erosive wear was observed under the highest impact angle for both group of samples, suggesting the higher sensitivity to surface fatigue than to abrasive wear mechanism. Samples consisting 10 wt. % of ZrO2 showed lower weight loss, indicating the higher erosion resistance of the composite ceramics for all impact angles
