Geomagnetic Storm Effects on Ionospheric Ionization Levels
Ionospheric signal delay affects performance of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). The performance downgrade is especially noticeable during severe geomagnetic storms. Geographical distribution of ionized particles in the ionosphere and the intensity of ionization during such an event vary and can change rapidly. This research describes and depicts those changes to provide better insight in ionospheric response to geomagnetic disturbances. Comparison of different parameters, such as Total Electron Content (TEC), its gradients and Rate of change of TEC (ROT) describes the location, size and evolution of ionospheric dynamics in several disturbed periods.
