Dramatizing Stories with Very Young Learners
Early learners, children ages 4 to 6 are very challenging. Their attention span is very short ; their interests are wide. At that age children’s main daily activity is the motion – they walk, they run, they jump most of the time. The teacher has to follow children’s needs if she wants to get their attention. That’s why SL (second language) early learning classes are full of different activities that take just a few minutes before switching to another activity. Drama in SL learning takes a very important place. After introducing a picture book to children we can magically turn our class into different characters, animals or toys. They can recite, sing and dance. Short sentences, many repeating and well known rhythm keeps children’s attention and makes second language learning fun and productive.
