Drama Activities with Young Learners
This thesis advocates the use of drama as a feasible method for early education, and presents activities that can be used to promote learning English as a foreign languages at an early age and in an authentic context, as opposed to the traditional approaches to language learning. It focuses on the benefits that arise from doing such activities with young learners and discusses possible problems that may appear during their implementation in the classroom. Drama activities are seen as a vehicle for developing creativity and imagination, and as a tool that facilitates language learning. An outline of several applicable theories and approaches to using drama in teaching English to young learners is given. These models present a starting point for the development of teaching activities based on Horton Hears a Who! by Dr. Seuss, which include a role play, and which are described and analysed in the final section of the thesis.
