Dahl and Blake in Cooperation
This paper explores the cooperation of Roald Dahl as a writer and Quentin Blake as an illustrator, and how words and pictures in their books work together to make an original story. A brief insight is given into their professional development, and into the controversy formed around Dahl’s literature for children. Four of their works are analysed to show that text and illustrations are equally important for creating both the overall atmosphere of the book and the story itself. In addition, there is a short report, based on the analysis of the books, on how Blake used different kinds of illustration for illustrating different kinds of books.
