Quest for prostate tumor biomarkers by proteomic analysis in healthy and tumor tissue
Prostate cancer is a complex and heterogenic disease, and heterogeneity of the disease represents a major hurdle to improve long-term survival. Identification of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers can accurately describe the complexity and heterogeneity ascribed to prostate cancer. Predictive biomarkers are required to guide current treatment protocols, as well as to guide the development and application of new targeted therapies. 2-D gel-based expression proteomics workflow was used to compare the tumor and healthy prostate tissue proteomes. Eight patients were chosen for study of tumor and healthy prostate tissue proteomes. Paired (tumor and healthy prostate tissue) were isolated from 4 radical prostatectomy specimens.
