Archaeology dogs project

The main purpose of “The archaeology dog project” was testing Human Remains Detection Dogs (HRD) in locating prehistoric burials. The research was conducted on the necropolis of Drvišica hill fort (Karlobag, Croatia) dated from 8-5 century BC. The research was complicated due to harsh rocky terrain surface and small amount of scent caused by the age of cemeteries, specific weather condition, and geological bedrock. In this paper we will present results and problems of using HRD dogs in archaeolog- ical research, which have proved to be reliable tool equivalent to other non-invasive research methods for discovering old burials.
