Pressures On the Liquid Storage Tanks Caused by Sloshing During Earthquake Studied by SPH Numerical Model
The paper briefly presents numerical study of the sloshing effects in liquid storage tanks subjected to earthquake forces. The study attempts to answer the question: How much pressures changes during sloshing, and what is the impact of this phenomenon on the real structures. The used numerical model is based on SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) method, which can precisely simulate and determine the free face fluid and pressures that it produces on the walls and roof of the container due to sloshing during the earthquake. The presented method can simulate the most important nonlinear effects of the fluid, like fluid viscosity, turbulence and cavitation. Reliability of the model and some of the model’s possibilities are illustrated in several practical examples.
