Supramolecular Synthesis of Self-Assembled Organo- and Hydro-Gels with Oalamide Units", Karlsruher Instituts für Technologie (KIT)
Self-assembly of small organic molecules is one of the most important methods of synthesis of organic nano-structured materials. Supramolecular nano-structured systems that transform properties affected by internal or external stimuli (light, pH, temperature, presence of certain ions or biomolecules) represent a new functional materials with applications in nanotechnology. Studies are directed toward better understanding of the supramolecular chemistry of gelation phenomena. The self-assembly motifs of small organic compounds in their hydro- and organo-gels and the non-covalent interactions (supramolecular vectors) governing formation and morphology of gelator assemblies are studied, sterochemical influences on the self assembly and properties of gels formed by chiral gelator molecules are investigated.
